Sam Poo Kong is a historic temple and one of the most iconic landmarks in Semarang. It is closely associated with the journey of Zheng He, a Chinese admiral who visited Java in the 15th century. According to historical accounts, this site was originally a cave where Zheng He used to rest and pray during his expedition.
Over time, the site developed into a temple, also known as Gedung Batu. Its architecture is dominated by striking red colors with traditional Chinese design elements, blended harmoniously with local Javanese culture, making it a symbol of cultural acculturation. Today, Sam Poo Kong serves not only as a place of worship but also as a popular religious and historical tourist destination, admired for its rich history and distinctive architectural beauty.
