Prambanan Temple is the largest Hindu temple complex in Southeast Asia, located about 17 km east of Yogyakarta. Known for its stunning architecture, the temple is closely linked to the legendary story of Roro Jonggrang, a princess who was cursed into a statue to complete a thousand temples.

The complex features three main temples dedicated to the Hindu Trimurti Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu with the Shiva temple standing as the tallest and most prominent. Surrounding them are hundreds of smaller temples, symbolizing devotion and social hierarchy in ancient times.

Built in the 9th century during the Mataram Kingdom, Prambanan was later abandoned and rediscovered in the 18th century. Restoration efforts began in the early 1900s and continue to preserve its grandeur today.

Today, Prambanan is not only a historical site but also a cultural icon, famous for its Ramayana ballet performances held regularly under the moonlight.
