Place of Interest

Plaosan Temple is a beautiful temple complex located about 1 km northeast of Prambanan Temple. Built during the classical era of ancient Java, the site is divided into three main groups: central, northern, and southern.

The central complex is the largest and most complete, featuring two main twin buildings known as viharas. These structures are richly decorated with carvings, statues, and multiple levels, reflecting the elegance of Buddhist architecture. Inside, visitors can find chambers adorned with Bodhisattva statues and intricate kala-makara ornaments.

Surrounding the main temples are hundreds of smaller structures, including stupas and shrines arranged in organized rows. These once held sacred Buddhist images, adding to the spiritual significance of the complex.

The northern and southern groups also feature courtyards, terraces, and smaller temples, highlighting the site's function as a religious and ceremonial center. Today, Plaosan Temple is admired for its harmony, symmetry, and peaceful atmosphere, making it one of the most charming temple complexes in Yogyakarta.
