Taman Sari Water Castle is a historic royal garden located about one kilometer west of the Yogyakarta Palace. Built during the reign of Sultan Hamengku Buwana I and completed by Sultan Hamengku Buwana II, this unique site combines Javanese and Portuguese architectural styles, creating a beautiful and distinctive complex.

Originally, Taman Sari served multiple purposes. It was a place for relaxation, meditation, and recreation for the royal family, as well as a hidden fortress during times of danger. The complex features bathing pools, underground tunnels, and a sacred mosque known as Sumur Gumuling, all connected in a sophisticated design.

One of its most famous parts is the bathing area, where the Sultan once relaxed and observed the royal family. There are also hidden passages that were used as escape routes, adding a sense of mystery to the site.

Today, Taman Sari stands as a cultural and historical landmark, offering visitors a glimpse into the royal life of Yogyakarta. With its unique architecture and fascinating history, it remains one of the cityโ€™s most iconic attractions.
