Komodo Diving

The water depth between 5 – more than 40m with good visibility in 5 - 30m depth
and the temperature is between 20 - 28°C. Though the current can be strong and
the surface can be rough, hundreds of colorful
reef fishes and crammed with invertebrates can be found here. Sharks, tuna and other big fish patrolling around the current-swept deep water
sea mounts, walls and pinnacles. Sunfish, mantas, dolphins and eagle rays to pygmy
seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish,
clown frogfish, nudibranchs and blue-ringed octopus - all at home amongst a spectacular
range of colorful sponges, sea squirts, tunicates and corals - a macro enthusiast's
heaven.
You can go diving Komodo all year round, because every month of the year promises
top quality action. Overall, but the absolute best visibility is from November
to January. In January
to march, the surface may too rough in northern sites. July and August, the seas
are rough in the south and Rinca. Due to the strong current,
Komodo Island is
recommended only for experienced
divers.
How to Get There
The best way to enjoy komodo diving is by liveaboard as the dive sites are spaced
out around the islands. There are plenty of liveaboard options starting from Benoa
harbor, Bali or
from Labuanbajo, Flores.
The closest International Airport to Komodo Island is in Denpasar Bali. From
Denpasar, you can connect your flight to Labuanbajo, the closest city to
Komodo Island, or may start your liveaboard trip from Benoa Harbor Bali. However,
if you want directly starting your trip from Jakarta, you just need to refers
to the air services and schedules.
